    Challenges in Organic Food

    Oulgaret Commune Magalir Consumer Organization took an initiative to popularize organic food and motivate farmers to switch to organic farming and link them to major retail outlets which promote organic food in markets. Oulgaret Commune Magalir Consumer Organization and Dept. of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs organized a one day workshop on 4th November, 2015 at Pondicherry to discuss the challenges in organic food. Speakers from various organizations related to organic farming, food safety, civil supplies dept, Legal & Meteorology department shared their views and thoughts on organic food and the challenges in the organic food sector. Concert Trust, the voluntary consumer organization also participated in the event.

    The following objectives and major challenges related to organic food were


    1. Create an awareness to add value to the organic food

    2. Create awareness about health care and consuming organic food

    3. Certification/ Regulation of Organic Food

    4. Tracking of Organic food production and to develop a mechanism to track the

    production process

    5. Price reduction for consumers to buy organic food product

    ASSIST presented about the organisation and the Green Retail project and explained in detail about the go green supply chain.
